Recreatia NU e un privilegiu – Nu le-o luati copiilor pentru a-i pedepsi!

Sunt profesor de liceu, si daca este un lucru pe care il stiu despre educatie este acela ca educatia moderna a pasit in epoca cercetarii si datelor. Profesorii colecteaza si exemineaza date in evaluari formative (verificand pentru a vedea daca studentii invata pe parcurs) si evaluari sumative (verificand pentru a vedea daca invatarea studentilor e completa).

Ne uitam la datele din notele la testele de anul trecut si notele la testele din acest an. Cand vine vorba de recreatie si de importanta jocului si activitatii fizice, prea multe scoli ignora cercetarile curente. In loc sa trateze recreatia ca pe o parte importanta, cruciala a zilei studentilor, unele scoli inca actioneaza ca si cum recreatia este un privilegiu cu care ii gratificam pe studentii care se comporta bine, pe cei ascultatori.

Ei utilizeaza recreatia ca instrument de negociere si interzicerea ei este o forma de pedeapsa. Ca parinti, noi tindem sa acceptam asta. Uram sa pierd recreatiile, dar am supravietuit. Asa ca de ce ar trebui sa ma supere pe mine daca fiul meu sau alti copii pierd recreatia din cand in cand? Diferenta este ca noi aveam trei recreatii. In total, aveam mai mult de o ora in fiecare zi pentru a ne juca, a alerga si a fi cu prietenii nostri. Multi din copiii de azi sunt norocosi daca au 20 de minute.

Cercetarile sunt clare. Conform cu afirmatiile Academiei Americane de Pediatrie (AAP), recreatia joaca un rol vital (http://pediatrics.aappublications.org/content/131/1/183) in dezvoltarea copilului, aducand beneficii emotionale, sociale, fizice si academice. AAP considera ca recreatia este o componenta cruciala si necesara in dezvoltarea copilului (http://www.slate.com/articles/life/family/2012/08/recess_in_schools_research_shows_it_benefits_children_.html), prin urmare, nu ar trebui luata din motive punitive sau academice.

Cu alte cuvinte, copiii au nevoie de recreatie, si recreatia nu ar trebui sa le fie luata copiilor pentru a-i pedepsi pentru purtare proasta sau pentru completarea incompleta sau incorecta a muncii / temelor.

Poate pentru ca pare o solutie simpla pentru comportamentele nedorite. Problema este ca aceasta pedeapsa este deseori mai putin eficienta in corectarea comportamentului decat alte forme de disciplina. In cazul recreatiei, aceasta pedeapsa este mai putin eficienta deoarece copiii au nevoie de recreatie (http://www.yourtango.com/2014229904/10-parenting-tips-raising-unspoiled-thankful-kids) pentru a se destinde, socializa si pentru a scapa de neastamparul fizic ca sa se poata concentra si sa se comporte mai bine in clasa.

Un alt motiv posibil pentru care scolile le iau recreatia este acela ca profesorii opereaza cu un timp si cu optiuni limitate (http://www.today.com/health/should-elementary-schools-have-recess-some-florida-parents-fight-break-1D80423842). Disciplina creativa poate lua din timpul de instruire al altor studenti.

Asa ca, cum schimba sau imbunatatesc profesorii comportarea studentilor fara sa le ia recreatia?

Nu exista solutii simple, dar una din chei este suportul administratiei scolii si al parintilor. Cand parintii stiu ce asteapta profesorii si cum pot copiii lor sa nu indeplineasca aceste asteptari, ei pot ajuta actionand acasa. Luandu-i televizorul si electronicele ar putea avea efect.

Copilaria zboara si cantitatea de timp pe care o au copiii pentu joaca in zilele copilariei a scazut dramatic in anii din urma. Tendintele curente in educatie au fortat scolile sa limiteze sever sau in unele cazuri sa elimine recreatia.

Asta nu e drept si nu este in cel mai bun interes al copilului.

Ar putea lua ani sa repunem recreatia in locul sau corect in curriculum, dar primul pas in restaurarea recreatiei este sa constientizam ca nu este un privilegiu numai pentru cei care se poarta bine.
